Davis Vanguard Blogspot

The Davis Vanguard Blogspot, produced by David Greenwald, provides local news and analysis and has developed quite a following in Davis the past few years. David produces a radio version of his content Wednesdays at 6 p.m. on KDRT-LP, 95.7 FM.

David teamed up with DMA recently in what we hope will be a series of multi-media town hall forums. He invited blog readers to post questions they'd liked asked of school district representatives, whom we brought into the DCTV studio and taped. The resulting interview was aired on DCTV and during David's KDRT slot.

The Davis Enterprise

DMA has had a long and wonderful relationship with our hometown paper, The Davis Enterprise. The Enterprise runs schedules for Channels 15 and 17 in its Thursday Spotlight section, and has done so for years as a community service. Enterprise editors and staff have provided excellent coverage of DMA's issues and events over the years. We've paired up on innovative election outreach at times.

Design House Furniture Galleries

Since the 1990s, Noni Storm and the folks at Design House Furniture Galleries have generously lent us upscale furniture to dress up our sets for election and other high-profile shows. Though Noni now spends most of the year in France, her family has continued this practice. We are very grateful for their support!

Redwood Barn Nursery

Redwood Barn Nursery has been our good neighbor for many years. Owner Don Shor and his staff generously lend DMA plants for our offices, and for studio sets and public events for over 15 years. They've supported us in numerous other ways as well. Check out Don's radio program, "Davis Gardening Show" on KDRT. The show is co-hosted with Lois Richter and airs Thursdays at noon.

Our Logos

Studio 66 designed the KDRT logo in 2004 and the Davis Media Access Logo in 2007. We thank former principal Jen Baker and her excellent staff for their help in visioning a new look for the media center.

Jeff Palmer of Flicker Pictures developed the DCTV logo in 2008, as well as the “Save KDRT” and “Squeezed In” logos we used during the push to save our LPFM from commercial encroachment. Finally, Jeff worked with us this year to develop the logo for our 20/20 Campaign.

Organizational Memberships

DMA is a proud member of the Alliance for Community Media, the Davis Chamber of Commerce, the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, Prometheus Radio Project and the Sacramento Non-Profit Resource Center. DMA also works with and supports the mission of Common Frequency Radio, KDVS 90.3 FM, the League of Women Voters of Davis and the at UC Davis.

Other Collaborations

In addition to our long-term partnerships, DMA collaborates with many community organizations on a per-project basis. From the Davis Food Co-op to the Davis Film Festival; from Davis Bicycles! to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis; and a wide range of departments at UC Davis (Program in Technocultural Studies, UC Davis Department of Design and Design Gallery, Women & Gender Studies, UCD Education in Sustainable Living Program, to name a few), DMA is proud to help facilitate community media use in a wide range of projects.

Omsoft Technologies

Also located upstairs in our building, Omsoft is a local ISP. Omsoft helps provide bandwidth for DMA at a discounted rate, and in return we help them with antenna hosting and other projects. We thank Robert Nickerson and his crew for many years as good neighbors.

Davis Downtown Business Association

While we’re not technically in the DDBA’s district, we’ve partnered with them many times nonetheless. KDRT volunteers Jim Buchanan & Diane Crumley have taped most of the DDBA’s E Street Plaza concert series, and DMA interns have taped other DDBA concerts and events for airing on DCTV. DMA also historically tapes DDBA election forums.

Davis Community Network

DCN is a community network located upstairs in our building. DMA partners with DCN and the Yolo County Elections office on local election results. This partnership dates back to 1994.

City of Davis

Our City leaders have historically allocated PEG monies to the support of community media. We are grateful for their support and vision in doing so. Communities without real representation on television are significantly different than those with it. Our community has access to municipal, school and public meetings; to performances by youth and professional artists; local sports programming; and information about non-profits, community organizations and local initiatives.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Davis Media Access is proud to announce that OLLI Presents airs on DCTV Channel 15 on Thursdays at 5 p.m., as well as Fridays at 3 p.m.  The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has begun recording its renowned lecture series with the assistance of Davis Media Access, and has generously offered to share the programming with the Davis community.

The first lecture series is Sex and the Law, delivered by Dr. Herbert Bauer, Professor Emeritus of UC Davis.  There is an introduction to Dr. Bauer and the series called A Conversation with Herb Bauer,  which will air all week and before each part of the series.

This list of programs and upcoming air dates can be found here.

Davis Odd Fellows Lodge

Odd Fellows are named so because "In 17th century England, it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and of pursuing projects for the benefit of all mankind."

DMA in conjunction with the IOOF of Davis holds a First Friday Concert Series benefiting both our organizations every year. The hall is beautiful and the community really comes out to show their support and hear some good music.

Street Smarts

DCTV is a proud media sponsor of Street Smarts, a traffic safety program presented through the City of Davis Traffic Engineering Division.

We've been involved with Street Smarts since covering its kickoff event in 2006. Last year, our staff and interns worked with middle-school kids to help create PSAs and other programming. Kids learned about traffic safety and gained some valuable media production skills in the process.

DJUSD Educational Access Channel 17

Comcast Cable pays franchise fees to the City of Davis in return for access to the public rights of way. The Davis City Council elects to fund three community channels with those funds. Together these channels are referred to as PEG (for public, educational and government) access channels.
