Voter Education Programming
Davis Media Access presents local voter education programming
Davis Media Access (DMA) is airing a variety of election-related programs now through Monday, June 2, 2008. Programs are available on DCTV, local cable channel 15 on the Comcast system, and on KDRT-LP 101.5 FM, DMA’s low-power community radio station. Select programs are also available online at www.davismedia.org.
As the community media center for Davis, DMA has provided coverage of local races for more than 20 years. “We are committed to local election coverage as a community service,” said Autumn Labbe-Renault, DMA’s executive director and producer of its election coverage. “This is one area in which citizen media makes a real difference in terms of sharing information and covering local races.”
Program highlights this season include “Meet the Candidates for Davis City Council” and “Meet the Candidates: Assembly 8th and Supervisor 4th,” both of which were produced by DMA. Also airing is the Davis Chamber of Commerce’s City Council candidate forum, recorded April 1 at the Vet’s Memorial Theater. DMA is slated to record the May 13 DDBA candidates forum at The Varsity.
Additional programs will be scheduled as they are received, including forums submitted by the League of Women Voters of Davis and the Sierra Club Yolano Group/Davis Neighborhood Coalition.
DMA is also planning a live, election night program for the June 3 election. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and conclude as local results are finalized. Hosts for the evening are Lori Aldrete and Paulina Sanders. Results are provided to viewers thanks to a partnership between DMA, City Government Channel 16, Davis Community Network, Omsoft Technologies and the Yolo County Elections Office.
