Selecting a new name
Ever since Davis Community Television (DCTV) launched KDRT 101.5 FM, a
low-
power radio station for
the Davis Community in 2004, we realized that we'd outgrown the name
that had served us since DCTV incorporated in 1988.
Now, we're not just about TV, and as we continue to move forward, radio, podcasts, digital video and other internet applications for community media will also be included in our mission.
As part of a four-month strategic planning process, DCTV's board and staff have been meeting regularly to tackle some weighty issues including changes to DCTV's mission statement, its bylaws, and finally, a new name.
Our updated mission statement follows:
Our mission is to enrich and strengthen the community by providing alternatives to commercial media for local voices, opinions and creative endeavors.
What's in a Name?
On December 7, 2006, we hosted a holiday "Open Studio" party to share some good cheer, and to give the community a chance to see all the great changes to the studio and equipment that were part of a very busy past year.
We also displayed a list of potential new names from our series of meetings, as well as a longer list from the brain-storming sessions. Everyone who attended the event placed a selection in our ballot box. Ballots were also collected through our November 2006 membership mailing campaign.
