Satellite Use and Downlinking Information
General Information
DCTV offers several public access programming satellite downlinking
services, including:
- Cablecasting satellite programs live on DCTV channel 15
- Recording satellite programming for cablecasting at a later time
- Providing a 20-person viewing facility.
If such services are non-commercial and occur during our normal business hours, we can provide them free of charge. An hourly fee may apply for services that fall outside those parameters. Please see our technical manager for more information.
Cablecast Clearance
Pleasde read our Rules and Procedures and sign a Statement of Compliance. You must secure all legal rights to cablecast the programming, and take full responsibility and liability for its content.
Technical Information
There are two kinds of satellites DCTV is cabable of receiving, "C-band" satellites, and "Ku-band" satellites. Satellite signals can be scrambled, or unscrambled. Scrambled signals require a "descrambler" to receive such programs. DCTV does not currently own a "descrambler". Signals can also be either digital or analog. Currently DCTV is only capable of receiving analog signals. DCTV has equipment to receive, cablecast, and/or record (or "downlink") C-band and Ku-band, unscrambled analog satellite transmissions only. When asked to perform a downlink, DCTV will need to know:
1) Is the transmission on a C-band or Ku-band satellite?
2) Is the signal "scrambled?"
3) Which satellite is the signal being carried on (satellite name)?
4) Which transponder number (1-12) and polarity (horizontal or vertical), or which channel number(1-24) is the program on?
5) What audio frequency is being used (6.8 Mhz is standard)?
