Consumer Rights

Consumer Rights: What Are the Issues?

In a crazy world of big corporations and confusing practices, who looks out for the consumer?

When it comes to your phone and utility bills, how do understand what you’re being charged, and get information about important money-saving programs?

Here in our community, who can help you understand the issues, and how to be your own advocate?

Davis Media Access can!

Long known as our community’s media center and an advocate for non-commercial media, Davis Media Access (DMA) is working with The Utility Reform Network (TURN) and Legal Services of Northern California to provide and promote information about consumer rights regarding cell phones and other telephone services. Topics we can address include:

  • Understanding your rights
  • How to purchase a cell phone
  • How to buy a prepaid phone card
  • What is cramming?
  • Understanding bundled services
  • What is Lifeline?
  • How to file a complaint

Why Davis Media Access?

Consumer education and community media share an emphasis on a right to information and a right to be heard. DMA is committed to sharing information in our community, and we are happy to broaden our scope of work with this project.
