‘Davisville’ wins national journalism award for KDRT

KDRT-LP 95.7 FM has won a national award from the Public Media Journalists Association for an episode of the public affairs program “Davisville” that addressed declining school enrollment in Davis.

“Davis faces choice between more homes, fewer schools,” broadcast in May 2025, won first place for news/public affairs programs from stations with small news operations, the PMJA said June 15.

“This a well-deserved honor, as ‘Davisville’ wonderfully illustrates the important role that hyper-local media plays in the discussion of pressing community issues,” said Autumn Labbe-Renault, executive director of Davis Media Access. KDRT is a project of Davis Media Access.

“Davisville,” produced and hosted by Davis journalist Bill Buchanan at KDRT since 2008, focuses on people, events and topics involving Davis. Jim Buchanan, who ran the sound board for the schools episode, shares the award with his brother.

The PMJA, whose members work in public radio, public television, and digital public media, says its annual competition “recognize(s) the very best in public media work from local outlets across the country.”

The recognition is the latest for the public-affairs program. “Davisville” has won 17 awards from the San Francisco Press Club over the years, including one for the May 2025 schools episode, as well as a national Hometown Media Award for excellence from the Alliance for Community Media in 2024.

“Davisville” is broadcast and streamed on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. New episodes usually arrive every two weeks. Current and previous episodes are also available anytime at kdrt.org/davisville and on Apple Podcasts.

From all of us at DMA and KDRT, we offer hearty congratulations to the Brothers Buchanan!
