Davis Media Access (DMA) will host a night of 2-D animation on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 7-8":"30 p.m. Facilitated by MFA artist Emily Schleiner and DMA Animation Camp Instructor Alex Silva-Sadder, the evening will highlight examples of inspiring, yet simple 2-D animation techniques. “Historically artists have gotten around the expense and technical limitations of high-end animation with simple techniques,” Schleiner said. “They've drawn and painted directly on to film, moved sand around light screens, used clay figures and dolls, backlit screens and used pins and paper dolls to create shadow effects.” Attendees will view clips of such animations by Len Lye and other experimental artists. Discussion will follow. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Please register online at davismedia.org or by calling 530-757-2419. DMA is a non-profit community media center, providing access to media technology and training across many platforms. The center is located at 1623 Fifth Street, adjacent to the Redwood Barn Nursery.
