I’m writing on New Year’s Day 2016, and I’m excited to kick off what is sure to be an exciting and challenging year. I’m also beginning to give shape to “A Look Back at 2015,” our annual report video for the year.
In the big picture, changes in technology, continued Big Media mergers and telecom-friendly legislation make the business of being a non-commercial community-media center ever challenging. Yet those same changes render the need for local content, and hands-on digital learning opportunities, ever more critical. DMA is ready for the challenge, and poised to unroll some exciting new services this year.
As DMA has time and again adapted to changing needs in our community, our community steps up to support DMA and the many programs we provide. Thank you—all of you! We’ll need your continued support this year. DMA will once again participate in the Big Day of Giving (May 3), and conduct our grassroots funding campaign throughout the month of May.
In the meantime, there’s much to occupy us on the local front: PSA Day for local non-profits is coming in February, and in late March we’ll begin recording “Meet the Candidates” for offices ranging from Davis City Council to the Assembly and Senate. This winter also brings new projects ranging from producer screenings; Final Cut user groups; a teen animation club; a new menu of paid production services, and more – see DCTV Updates for details on these, and find updates on our KDRT & DJUSD.TV projects below, as well.
Wishing you a healthy and happy 2016, and hoping our paths cross often in the spirit of deepening community.
