DMA Needs Your Support!
I'm writing this in the midst of working with the studio consultant, writing grant applications and orienting new board members. And, I'm thinking about money, value, and services. DMA has just two weeks remaining in our annual fund raising campaign and donations are seriously down this year.
DMA’s doors are open and accessible to all, but—we need you to help us keep them open. Between now and June 30, our direct fund-raising goal is $25k in support of our programs and services. These funds keep KDRT on the air, help us produce local election coverage and provide opportunities for youth to participate in media training. It takes community support to make this happen.
Whether you participate, watch, listen or just value the fact that non-commercial community media exists in Davis, please contribute today. Contributions of all sizes are welcomed. You may contribute via Paypal here or mail a check to Davis Media Access, 1623 Fifth Street, Suite A, Davis, CA 95616. Your online support will save additional resources. Thank you!

What's Your Story?
DMA staff & volunteers have been doing outreach all around town, staffing an information booth and recording community stories and station IDs. We've enjoyed meeting the community at Celebrate Davis, at the Davis Food Co-op's Volunteer Faire and the Davis Farmers' Market. Please come by The Odd Fellows Hall on June 25 as part of the Davis Music Festival, or the Market on June 29 to say hello, and get a DMA or KDRT sticker!
DMA helps connect our community and one of the ways we do that is by sharing stories--about people’s involvement, their concerns, their organizations and their passions. Tell us what’s on your mind. Tell us what you care about, and why. Help us learn why we should care! Give us a brief statement and we’ll help share your story (on local television, radio and websites).
Here's a statement from DMA's incoming Board President, Nancy Bodily, and another by DMA Board Member Rita Montes-Martin.
Try an Animation Camp This Summer!
Our popular Kid Vid Camp begins next week. Our training is generally geared to individuals aged 14 and older, so Kid Vid camps present a unique summer learning opportunity for younger kids. In addition to the Kid Vid Camp, DMA will offer two sessions of "Animaniacs."
Class dates for Animaniacs are M, T, W, F, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., July 25-29 for Session 1 and Aug. 8-12 for Session 2 (same information as Session 1). Participants will learn how to plan and storyboard an animation, record dialog and effects, and light and create stop-motion animations. The results will air on DCTV and DJUSD.tv. Attendance at all three sessions is required and prompt attendance is a must. Cost for the camp is $100 plus a $25 materials fee per student and is payable in advance. Participation in each camp is limited to 6 students. The absolute deadline to register is Friday, July 15 at 5 p.m. We accept credit cards via Paypal and local checks.
More information and online registration may be found our workshop page.
Television Studio Revamp Scheduled
At long last, DMA's television studio is getting a major facelift and technological update. This is a project we've been planning and saving for, for many years. The revamped studio will be fully 1080i HD compliant.
The studio will be offline and unavailable for any use from July 1 to Sept. 15, 2011. We expect to unveil the newly revamped facility at Celebration on the Backlot, Sept. 17. However, due to the recent earthquake in Japan we may experience delays in the delivery of new equipment, so the "big reveal" is a tentative date. We'll keep everyone posted.
DMA's orientation and regular trainings, and KDRT's operations remain unaffected by the upgrades.
