A note from the director

It’s been 25 years since community leaders worked to launch what was originally Davis Community Television as a public-access cable channel. What started as a promise of equal access to media tools for all has grown into a full-service community media center.

Much has changed in 25 years. The political climate doesn’t favor non-commercial, community-based media, and many centers similar to DMA have closed across the country. DMA has worked diligently to be of service and make a difference locally, garnering widespread community support. Leveraging a small staff with a large complement of interns and other volunteers, it’s DMA who heeds the call to cover a candidates’ forum, a school orchestral performance or basketball game, or a community event.

This week, we’re launching our annual spring funding appeal. We reach out to the community for support of some of our signature programs, including youth media projects, local election coverage, and KDRT 95.7 FM. All of these programs, in turn, help us support myriad non-profits, neighborhood-based organizations, and civic activities in Yolo County. We’ve been using media to strengthen community for 25 years.

If you receive a letter in the mail from us, please consider supporting DMA’s services with a donation this spring. Donations large or small help us out a great deal, and bring home the message that in this commercialized world, non-commercial media outlets for local voices count a great deal.

On behalf of all of us at DMA, thank you for your involvement, and your support!

In community,

Autumn Labbe-Renault
Executive Director

PS: If you didn’t receive a letter, we’ve made it easier thank ever to donate online at davismedia.org or kdrt.org. New this year is an option to make a recurring monthly donation!

One of our volunteers, Erin Sayson, generously donated her design talents for our 25th anniversary logo, debuting in this issue. Originally from North Carolina, Erin just graduated from UC Davis with a BA in Design and a minor in Managerial Economics. In May, she starts a full-time position as a graphic design associate for a start-up company in San Francisco. Congratulations to this accomplished Aggie, and thank you!
