So how about this weather?

Hi everyone! The change in weather is bringing with it much needed rain. This is good for all those plants out there that need water to thrive.  Thus the rain benefits us as well.  What would Davis be like without all the beautiful vegetation and the plants, fruits, and vegetables we eat to survive?  Probably pretty scrappy and dull.

You may have noticed that DCTV and DJUSD Channel 17 have been carrying messages about our video server crashing.  It is true. Our server which runs 24/7, and has done so for the last 5 years, finally ran into a problem it was not able to recover from. We are slowly trying to nurse it back to health.  It may turn out to be time to replace it.  We won't know until we test a few more things.  Even though redundancy is built into many aspects of today's hardware, it is still possible for things to break, and having two entirely separate video servers is still prohibitively expensive for us. We hope to have things resolved as soon as possible and within the budget with which we must operate. Please be patient, and things will get back to better than normal as soon as possible.

Better than normal you ask? Yes. DMA was in the process of updating our programming schedule on both channels when this problem cropped up.  The changes are unrelated to the server failure but were precipitated by our losss of access to certain satellite feeds.  Deutsche Welle-TV, Classic Arts, UCTV and others all are no longer available to us (some because of pricing issues, some because of budget cuts, some becuase of service changes by the providers).  We were in the process of adding all new shows and feeds when the server failed.

So when the server issues are resolved, DCTV and DJUSD will be back with lots of new shows and programming feeds for you to enjoy.  We also have heard the cries for a return of Classic Arts Showcase and are looking into solutions to enable that.  We have to get the server fixed first though, which is a major issue as it affects everything, not just one or two programs. Until then programming will continue to be irregular and off the normal schedule.

Thank you for your support and patience while we work through these issues. And enjoy the rain! :)
