From the Vault

DMA's latest release “From the Vault” provides a poignant memoir of noted veterinarian and animal behaviorist Dr. Sophia Yin, who passed away in Sept. 2014.

Long before she developed a professional website highlighting her work, Yin  produced videos through the facilities at Davis Community Television, the original name for DMA. Most of the videos date from the late ‘90s-2000, and occupy the Non-Profit/Activist subsection of DMA’s archives.

“Some of the value of a community archive dwells in its ability to remind us of those who are no longer here,” said Autumn Labbe-Renault, DMA’s executive director. “We share these videos with respect for Dr. Yin’s work and life, and fond memories of her time with us here at the media center.”

The following videos are airing on DCTV, and are also available online.

  • Learning to Understand the Horse:  A Month at Reis Ranch
, with instructor Dennis Reis
  • Chicken Training Camp
  • With Instructors Marian Breland-Bailey & Bob Bailey
  • Cross-Species Training
  • Thinking Chickens
  • Rover, Come!
  • When the Humans Are Away

DMA has served Davis and environs for more than 25 years, amassing an archive of more than 10,000 locally produced videos. DMA launched “From the Vault" in Oct. 2014 to highlight select programs from this archive.
A new "From the Vault" segment launches every two weeks.  Each segment will air on DCTV, Channel 15 on Comcast in Davis, Thursdays at 8:30 p.m., and Sundays at 10 p.m. The content also airs on AT&T’s U-verse service at Menu 99, and is profiled across DMA’s social media feeds (@dmafeed on Twitter; davismediaaccess on Instagram; Davis Media Access on Facebook, and on YouTube.)

DMA seeks to highlight older programs, in general, though there may be impetus to highlight something more recent if it provides context for a current situation. Requests may be sent to info@davismedia.org.
