Introduction to Chroma Keying (Green Screening)

We will cover how to shoot green screen material, how to light a screen (typically green) for the best results, how to utilize the DMA studio green wall, and how to set up your keys in Final Cut Pro X. Chroma keying is a great way to add production value to your project, but you need to understand how it all works in order to avoid making your project look cheap with poor quality green screen work.

General Orientation

Curious about KDRT, DCTV or DJUSD Channel 17, and want to learn how Davis Media Access can help you? Plan to attend one of our General Orientations!

Orientations last about an hour and include the history of Davis Media Access, a tour of the facilities, and information on how to get involved.

Anyone is welcome to attend an Orientation, but to use the facility for your own productions you must live, go to school, or volunteer at an organization in Davis, CA. Davis Media Access does not charge for the use of our equipment and facilities, but attending a General Orientation is mandatory.

Camera Basics: Composition & Lighting

The first part of this workshop covers composition (the placement of elements within the frame) for your video or photo shoot. You’ll also see how light can be used to sculpt depth, add contrast and pattern, direct attention and more. From Film Noir style to the use of ambient lighting in the modern documentary, lighting can affect the mood of your viewers.
The second (shorter) part of this workshop, covers the technical basics of proper lighting and exposure in the digital realm, and how you can adjust exposure parameters for various effects.

Introduction to Podcasting

From relaying your opinions, to telling your stories and/or communicating information and ideas, podcasting is great way to get the word out. Podcasting is a fun and easy way of communicating with people around the world. We’ll cover techniques and ideas for presenting your content, advice on microphones and recording set-ups, editing your production, as well as hosting & distribution methods. Copyright issues regarding the use of music and sound clips will also be discussed.
