We will cover basic mic types and what situations they are used for, as well as the options for acquiring sound for your project, using the Canon XA-25 and TASCAM Dr-100 Mk.II as our example recording gear. Tips & tricks for recording interviews, oral histories, music events, and dialogue and soundFX for films.

Final Cut Pro X: Editing Basics

This workshop will introduce you to the principles of editing video and audio using Final Cut Pro X. We will cover the basic approaches you can take in laying out your timeline and the quirks of editing in Final Cut Pro X. The basic tools and types of edits will be covered, as well as the principles that most editors abide by in selecting materials for either side of an edit. We will also cover basic transitions and audio fades and cross fades. Editing is a core skill of filmmaking, with many even defining filmmaking in terms of editing. Lecture w/ hands-on and Q&A.

This workshop is free for those who have completed Davis Media Access' General Orientation and have a signed Statement of Compliance on file.

General Orientation

Curious about KDRT, DCTV or DJUSD Channel 17, and want to learn how Davis Media Access can help you? Plan to attend one of our General Orientations!

Orientations last about an hour and include the history of Davis Media Access, a tour of the facilities, and information on how to get involved.

Anyone is welcome to attend an Orientation, but to use the facility for your own productions you must live, go to school, or volunteer at an organization in Davis, CA. Davis Media Access does not charge for the use of our equipment and facilities, but attending a General Orientation is mandatory.
