On August 25, 2023 the Davis Chapter of "Fridays for Future" completed its 200th Climate Strike March, which begins each Friday at noon at the Veterans Memorial Center and concludes at Central Park at the corner of Fifth and B Street. This youth-led group also joined in the GLOBAL Climate Strike Sept. 15, including youth groups from around the world inspired by the Swedish youth activist, Greta Thunberg, and is part of the international #FridaysforFuture movement. The Davis Climate Strike project began in September 2019 when at least 1000 youth and community members convened at Davis Community Park as part of the first Global Climate Strike. Although largely a student-led activity, in Davis the participants represent at least three generations, including many community members from the local nonprofit Cool Davis.
